Making quality homes accessible to families in Burnham

In the heart of the Home Counties commuter belt sits Burnham Court, an attractive collection of 58 homes in the sought-after Buckinghamshire village of Burnham, comprising 36 3- and 4-bedroom family townhouses and 22 apartments.

To help make these quality homes accessible to families, the developers - Octagon Developments - formed a partnership with trusted professional landlord, Thrive Homes. By making all of the townhouses available through the government's shared ownership scheme, first-time buyers have been provided with access to a family home in an area that would otherwise be unaffordable.

Demonstrating the demand for family homes, all 36 townhouses were reserved within two months of launching and here is what some of our new homeowners have to say...

Megan and James

For Megan and her partner James, owning their own home at Burnham Court feels too good to be true!

The couple, who were already renting in Burnham had been looking for a new home for several months, before they came across Burnham Court. With nothing suitable coming up in their price range, the couple had begun to feel disheartened, as they grappled between whether to compromise on property size or to push their search area further out.

After receiving a Rightmove alert, Megan was intrigued to explore what Burnham Court had to offer. While new build homes and shared ownership were not on the couple’s wish list, they both found themselves really liking the development.

Talking of their experience, Megan said: “Burnham Court was the first thing we had seen in ages that we both really liked. It offered us a spacious new home, finished to a high specification and in an area where we really wanted to live. When we visited the show home, we just loved it. In fact, it all seemed too good to be true! When our families came to view the show home, they agreed that the development was perfect for us, so we quickly put down a reservation and we haven’t looked back since.

“Shared ownership wasn’t something we had really considered before, but it has meant that we have been able to purchase a fantastic new home, in an area we know and love.”

Talking of their new home, now they have moved:

“The whole process felt so easy. Everyone was really helpful, and it all progressed pretty quickly, so we were very lucky. We already feel really settled here. To be able to move into a home that is finished to such a high standard has been great. We’ve had no issues and we are now enjoying putting our stamp on our new home.”

Talking of the sales team, Megan added: “The sales team was great. Everyone was so friendly, and they really took the time to talk us through the whole process. As first-time buyers, we had so many questions, but the team was so patient, they were always really quick to come back to us and happy to help.”

Chloe

For Chloe and her partner, their dreams of owning their own home have finally been realised, thanks to a shared ownership scheme at Burnham Court.

Speaking of their purchase, Chloe said: “We had initially started our search for a new home during lockdown. We were aware of shared ownership and we knew that this was the right route for us, but we just hadn’t been able to find any homes that were suitable. We came across the Burnham Court development when we were searching online and straight away, we loved the look of the homes here. We were able to view the show home, which was beautiful, and we soon decided that we’d like to go ahead with a purchase here.”

Talking of the homes, Chloe added: “We are so happy with our new home. One of the first things that appealed to us was the space, and the fact that the house offered three, good sized double bedrooms. There was no compromising with a box room, which is what we had found with all of the other properties we had considered. We’ve got so much space here and the interior finish is of such a high standard. To have been able to move straight in and not have to do anything to the property has been amazing.

“We had been renting in Windsor previously, but my partner grew up locally, so he knew the area well and we knew this was where we’d like to settle.  We were really keen to find somewhere that had good train connections into London for work, but somewhere that had more of a village-type feel. Burnham was perfect. We couldn’t have afforded to get onto the property ladder here without shared ownership and we just feel so lucky to have secured such a lovely new home.”

Akash and family

For Akash Bagga and his family, the whole process of buying a new home has gone seamlessly and they are already enjoying getting settled into their new three-bedroom home at Burnham Court. Keen to secure a new home via shared ownership, the couple was eager to explore what Burnham Court had to offer and made an appointment to visit the show home. Instantly impressed with the layout of the homes and the high-quality finish, they were quick to reserve and can’t believe how smooth the whole process has been.

Talking of their experience. Akash said: “We were specifically looking for a new home available via shared ownership and when we came across Burnham Court, it offered exactly what we wanted. The finish of the homes was really good and the show home gave us lots of ideas for how we could make the best use of all the space available.  Having previously lived in Windsor, I knew the Burnham area and we love the village feel here. This combined with its excellent transport connections, including the newly opened Elizabeth Line, means it’s the perfect location, enabling me to commute easily into London for work.

Faye and her growing family

For Faye, her partner Dan and their growing family, their new home at Burnham Court combines the perfect home, with the perfect location.

Already living locally, the couple had watched the development progress. After contacting the sales team, they learned that the homes were being offered via shared ownership. Unfamiliar with the scheme and unsure if they’d qualify, the coupe tentatively enquired and were delighted to discover that the scheme was available to them. After viewing the show home and falling in love with the property, the couple completed their application process and were impressed with how straightforward it all was. Along with their little boy, they are now moved in and settled into their new home, with another baby on the way.

Talking of the experience, Faye said:

“We absolutely love the house. There’s so much space here, we have a great garden, and everything is finished to such a high standard. We had been considering another property locally, but it needed a lot of work and with a baby on the way, it just wasn’t practical. The houses at Burnham Court just seemed to offer the ideal solution and we have been able to move in and start living – without having to spend time and money doing any work.  It has been easy to put our own mark on our new home and we’re so settled,  it already feels like we have been here forever! We have already begun to get to know some of our neighbours, and there are lots of people with young families. There is a really positive and sociable feel here.

“We really didn’t know much about shared ownership, but it has really worked for us. It has meant that we can secure ourselves a lovely new home, where we can grow as a family – in an area that we both know and love.”
