The Government is launching a new service called Emergency Alerts Service in the UK, which will have the ability to warn individuals if there is danger to life nearby.
On Sunday 23rd April 2023 an alert will be sent to all phones in the UK to test this. The siren-like sound will last for 10 seconds, even if your phone is on silent or vibrate.
Domestic abuse charities in the UK have expressed concerns about this alert and have issued advice for survivors to turn any secret phones off if they have one.
